Unwholly
We had to read a book of our choice for our assignment, Book Club. I read the book, Unwholly by Neal Shusterman, with another student. Here is the summary of the book; At end the Second Civil War, "The Unwind Accord" was passed to assuage both the pro-life and pro-choice forces. It states that human life may not be terminated from conception until a child reaches the age of thirteen. At that time, parents of troubled teens may choose to have their child "unwound"--a form of abortion in which the child is terminated, but continues to live in a "divided state" with all of their body parts used for medical transplants. Connor, Lev, and Risa are all AWOL unwinds and because of the uprising they led at the Happy Jack Harvest Camp, the morality of unwinding is back in the public eye. But unwinding has turned into quite a business, with parts pirates trying to find AWOLs and sell their parts on the black market. Connor, who leads a safe-house for the Anti-Divisional Resistance, thinks that he is doing his part to protect hundreds of kids whose parents simply gave up on them, until he realizes that he is just a pawn in the Unwinding Consortium's plan to elevate the price of parts. Cam is also a pawn but couldn't be more different from Connor. That's because Cam is the first rewind--a composite teen made completely of parts harvested from ninety-nine of the best and the brightest unwinds. Despite their differences, the two boys become inextricably linked by their roles in the business and future of unwinding.
I really enjoyed this book, it was very suspenseful, action packed, nerve racking and just very entertaining. This book is the sequel to, Unwind, so my friend which I read this book with thought we should use this chance to read the second one. I'm happy we did, because this whole series is very creative and very well thought out, something that seems that could happen to the world. Just with a very different sci-fi like world.
