The american dream
After writing our own plays as we chose to produce, The American Dream. This play is about an Italian immigrant, Antonio, coming to america to make a better life for his wife and baby on the way. But little did he know it was the Great Depression Era, in America. .So he, out of desperation, join a gang of burglars. He makes a friend on the boat to New York, Marco, who's coming to join the NYPD. After some time of no job and living off the little money Antonio had left, he joins a gang of burglars to make some easy money. And Marco is on the case of tracking down this gang of burglars that Antonio is in, and in a heist, Marco, Antonio and Antonio's boss are all killed by Marco's boss, a racist police officer who hates immigrants.
My role in this production was the lead actor, Antonio. I had to memorize all lines, and blocking by different deadlines. The hardest part of acting for me was not being yourself, but being who the character is; excited, anxious to be in america, then becoming sad, desperate over time. But being the actor was also the most fun part of all I think, getting to be someone else, acting completely different than you normally would. If I could do anything different I would take even more time to learn my lines, not just memorize them, but learn the emotions of the situation. I really enjoyed this project, by far one of the most fun projects I've done.
