Alvaro
My mother always knew that if she had a son, he would be named Alvaro. Even as a teen if asked about names she would always say she liked Alvaro. She loved it because it sounded special to her, not too common or ordinary, today she would always tell me, “ Do not hate your name, it’s the one you have, make the best of it.”. My dad on the other hand, had no say in my name. My mom and dad made a deal, my mom would choose my name, and my dad would choose the next baby’s name.
I like my name, its unique, special, uncommon. I don’t think I would change my name. Because my name is so unique, it makes me want to stand out, to be the one people always remember about. I want to be as unique as my name. The name Alvaro means, one to help others. It also implies that I have a depth understanding that produces sympathy, kindness, and generosity. My name in spanish to me sounds just right, like an amazing harp so stunning, but subtle, . Just because my name means all this doesn’t mean I have to be all this, I choose to be all this. Nobody should tell you what to be or what not to be, you yourself should be capable of showing these traits. What’s so amazing about my name is, it’s mine, it is my identity, the way I show off to people. Losing my name, is as good as losing my dreams or identity.
But then people always mistake my name for Alvarez, Alvarado, and for some reason Avocado. Lots of time I would get made fun of because of my name, my name being so uncommon people would try mock it. I learned to ignore it, take it as a joke. My parents didn’t just give my name to me. It has meant something to them like either a memory. Someone doesn’t like something just because, it strikes them, making them wonder, making them feel happy about it. So a name isn’t just a label, it’s a part of you and your parents, they gave you that name because you mean something just as they meant something to their parents.
Either way it’s my name, my wishes, my identity. My name to me is everything.
